Missions Minute - Tom and Bev Hawkins (February 12, 2024)

This week’s missionary highlight is from Tom and Bev Hawkins based in a small town called Agnetz, 45 minutes north of Paris, France. They have been a Part of Greater Europe Mission (GEM) since 2014.

One of Bev's main ministries is The Soli Deo Gloria outreach choir, which Bev started in 2016 as a small evangelistic group. It has since grown to about 25 members by 2025. It has also recently become an independent non-profit organization and is part of a regional choral federation, expanding its visibility. The choir includes members from multiple churches and even non-believers. The choir's ministry is not only outward but also within, as members experience spiritual growth and connection.
In the art world, Bev's excited to have been accepted into an art show in March, which is a significant opportunity for her. It's her first show with a real chance of selling works, and there are also prizes, so it’s an exciting new step. She is flourishing in her art group and building deeper relationships. Recently, she had an interesting conversation about faith with one of the women in the group, who is a strong Catholic. In March, she'll also be preparing meals for visiting musicians, which is a bit outside her comfort zone, but she's looking forward to the opportunity and the chance to build relationships.

Tom enjoys his work in his second-floor office, with a cozy space and a coffee corner, despite winter complaints about cold fingers. His workday mainly consists of numerous video calls, including weekly meetings with leadership councils, quarterly check-ins with various teams, and ad-hoc calls from colleagues or ministry partners seeking help with administrative issues.

Tom’s expertise in navigating the complex French administrative system, especially around visas, taxes, and nonprofit rules, has been invaluable to many, including Rapha House, a retreat for pastors and missionaries. His skills are now in demand across Europe as more people join GEM’s work, extending his impact beyond just France.
Please see the below prayer requests:
  1. Bev is still meeting weekly with Catherine, and she specifically asks for prayer so that she can find study material suited to her very low educational level and understanding.
  2. Prayers for wisdom for Diane. Although her health situation has improved slightly, her relationship with her son is causing additional financial and mental stress.
  3. Bev is planning to present an Art Retreat in early April at a friend’s B&B, and she asks for prayer that there will be enough interest for it to move forward.
  4. Bev asks for prayer for our son Caleb’s family, as they’ve had a challenging start to the year with health issues. Caleb had hernia surgery on January 2, and although he’s recovering well, a few weeks ago, his whole family had strep, and then Caleb got it severely. He ended up in the ER and was diagnosed with a severe kidney infection, which required several days in the hospital. Thankfully, he’s much better now. They’re also facing significant and expensive vehicle repairs. Please pray for God’s intervention in their health and vehicle situation.
  5. Tom requests prayer for capacity (and patience) to untangle tape that’s not just red but sometimes striped, or plaid, or…
  6. He also requests prayer for good communication with a team of people scattered around Europe and as far west as the state of Washington
  7. He requests prayer for safe travels over the next few months
  8. He also requests prayer for leadership for our field here in France. He serves on the leadership team and already this group is a bit stretched with the responsibility.  This summer one of the key people on that team will be returning indefinitely to the States so that leaves the team with one less to cover the work. Pray for God to call the people that HE wants to fill this role (or these roles…we’d be more than happy to have more than one person)!
