Clothed by Another
Genesis 3:15 · Genesis 3:21 · Week 05
Opening Prayer
Lord, I want to see the whole story this week, from the Garden to the cross. Open my eyes. Amen.
Sunday John the Baptist pointed at Jesus and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
To understand why he called Jesus a lamb, you have to go back to the beginning. All the way back to the Garden.
This week, every morning, read John 1:29 and pray: "Jesus, I'm not trusting in what I've done. I'm trusting in what You've already done for me."
God has always been the One who covers.

Monday · The Passage
Read Genesis 3:15 and 3:21
Before God sent Adam and Eve out of the Garden, He made a promise and He made them clothes.
"And the LORD God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them."
Genesis 3:21 · ESV
But before God sent them out of the Garden, He did two things. He made a promise: one day a child of the woman would crush the serpent's head. And He made them clothes from animal skins.
Think about what that cost. For Adam and Eve to be covered, something innocent had to die. The guilty were clothed by a life that wasn't theirs. That was the first picture of what God would one day do through His Son.
The first sacrifice wasn't Adam's idea. It was God's. Rescue has always started with Him.

Two Questions to Sit With
Don't rush these. Give yourself a few minutes with each one before moving on.
Question 1
Where do you try to cover your own shame with "leaves" (staying busy, looking good, keeping score)? Write it down.
Question 2
Adam and Eve were clothed by a life that was not theirs. What does that tell you about how God feels toward people who have failed?
Write your answers down. By Friday you will see how this first covering points all the way to the cross.

Prayer & Action Step
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for covering what I could never cover myself. Thank You for keeping Your promise in Jesus. Amen.
Today's Action Step
Start this week's homework today. Read John 1:29 this morning and pray, "Jesus, I'm not trusting in what I've done. I'm trusting in what You've already done for me." Do it every morning through Friday.
Come back tomorrow - tomorrow you'll stand inside a house in Egypt on the most important night in Israel's history.

When I See the Blood
Exodus 12:1-13 · Week 05
Opening Prayer
Lord, show me what You see when You look at me. Amen.
Exodus 12:1-13 - the first Passover
"The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt."
Exodus 12:13 · ESV
Read Exodus 12:1-13. On the night God brought Israel out of Egypt, every family was to choose a lamb without blemish. The lamb was killed at twilight. Its blood was painted on the doorposts and the lintel. Then the family stayed inside and trusted.
Notice what God did not say. He didn't say, "When I see how good you've been." He didn't say, "When I see how hard you prayed." He said, "When I see the blood, I will pass over you."
The safest family in Egypt that night wasn't the most religious one. It was the one with blood on the door. Their safety rested completely on the lamb.
Rescue didn't come by being good enough. It came by a life given on behalf of others.
Reflect
If God said "When I see how good you've been," how would you feel standing inside that house? Now read Exodus 12:13 again. What changes?
Closing Prayer
Lord, I'm trusting the blood of the Lamb, not my own record. Thank You for passing over me. Amen.
Today's Action Step
Every time you walk through a doorway today, let it remind you: I'm not safe because I'm good. I'm safe because of the Lamb.

Carried Away
John 1:29 · Isaiah 53:6-7 · Week 05
Opening Prayer
Jesus, I bring You the things I keep carrying. Help me let go of them today. Amen.
John 1:29 - the Lamb of God
Isaiah 53:6-7 - like a lamb
"All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned-every one-to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all."
Isaiah 53:6 · ESV
Read John 1:29. John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
The words "takes away" mean to lift up and carry off. Jesus doesn't only cover sin. He removes it. Seven hundred years earlier Isaiah saw it coming: the Lord would lay our sin on Him, and He would go like a lamb led to the slaughter.
And notice the size of the claim: the sin of the world. Not the sin of good people, or of Israel only. No one is outside the reach of this Lamb, including you, and including the person you think is too far gone.
Whatever Jesus carries away, you don't have to carry anymore.
Reflect
Is there a sin you keep picking back up, as though it's still yours to carry? Write it down, then write "Carried away" across it.
Closing Prayer
Lamb of God, You took my sin and carried it away. I won't go back and pick it up. Amen.
Today's Action Step
Read Psalm 103:12 today: "As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us." Thank Him for how far.

The Spirit Remained
John 1:32-33 · Ezekiel 36:26-27 · Week 05
Opening Prayer
Holy Spirit, I need more than a clean record. I need a new heart. Amen.
John 1:32-33 - the sign
Ezekiel 36:26-27 - a new heart
"And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."
Ezekiel 36:26 · ESV
Read John 1:32-33. John admits, "I myself did not know him." He didn't recognize Jesus as the Messiah on his own. God gave him a sign: watch for the One the Spirit comes down on and stays. When John baptized Jesus, the Spirit came down like a dove, and it remained.
That word matters. In the Old Testament the Spirit came on prophets, judges, and kings for a task, and could leave. On Jesus, the Spirit rested for good. And Jesus would do what John never could: baptize people with the Holy Spirit.
John's baptism was an outward sign of repentance. Jesus gives the inward reality: a new heart and God's own Spirit living inside you. That is the promise of Ezekiel 36.
The Lamb takes away your sin. The Spirit gives you new life.
Reflect
Where have you seen God changing your heart, even a little? Where do you still need a new heart?
Closing Prayer
Spirit of God, thank You that You don't come and go. Keep making me new. Amen.
Today's Action Step
Read Ezekiel 36:26-27 out loud today. Then ask the Spirit for one specific change in you this week.

Once Is Enough
John 1:34 · Hebrews 10:11-14 · Week 05
Opening Prayer
Jesus, I want to rest today in what You already finished. Amen.
John 1:34 - the Son of God
Hebrews 10:11-14 - a single sacrifice
"But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God."
Hebrews 10:12 · ESV
Read John 1:34. John said, "I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God." In the Bible, "son of" means "shares the nature of." Jesus is not a lesser God. He is fully God, the same nature as the Father.
Now read Hebrews 10:11-14. The priests stood every day offering the same sacrifices, over and over, because those sacrifices could never take away sin. Then Christ offered one sacrifice, for all time, and sat down. You only sit down when the work is done.
Why was once enough? Because of who He is. A lamb could save a family for a night. Only the Son of God could save the world forever.
Your goodness doesn't have to be enough. His sacrifice already is.
Reflect
Where are you still trying to add to what Jesus finished? If you've never trusted Him for the forgiveness of your sin, what is holding you back?
Closing Prayer
Son of God, You did it once, and once is enough. Jesus, I'm not trusting in what I've done. I'm trusting in what You've already done for me. Amen.
Today's Action Step
If you have never trusted Jesus, you can do that today. Tell Him, and then tell someone at Summit Sunday. If you have, read John 1:29 one more time and pray this week's prayer slowly, meaning every word.
